I really wanted to share some of my childhood items that really made my childhood special. I have gotten inspired by Basquiat and the materials he used. Also a major thing that got me inspired was my childhood experience. Basquiat got inspired by his childhood and used color pencils, paper and crayons in his artwork. I hope people will see an inspiring artist when they look at my artwork and get good references from it.

I crumpled little pieces of paper to show sometimes I get frustrated with my work. What inspired me to do this project was how Basquiat showed that little things that are in your house can be made into a painting. Basquiat sends a message that anything is possible when you put your mind to it. When people look at my project I want them to see how I feel. My message to all kids is never give up and just tell yourself you can do it no matter what happens.

I can't go outside a lot because it’s a global pandemic. I made this project by finding materials in my house. Dolls were a big part of my childhood and I really wanted to add the same ones I played with as a child. The way I was working was like Basquiat, how he listened to music. When Basquiat used to do his work he didn’t buy a lot of materials to work with-- he used the materials that could find. I was also inspired by Maggie Lee’s work who used a fish tank and made childhood references.

I was inspired by the asymmetry, color, lines, and symbols of Basquiat's work. His art is very different from what I usually create and this project gave me an outlet to free myself of the neat status quo of traditional portraits and illustrations.

My art only has one word and even though it’s one word it explains a lot and that word is Monachopsis. The main meaning of Monachopsis is the feeling of being out of place. It is a hard word to pronounce and read but it has a big definition.

My statement that I was trying to come up with the ideas is to show your self identity by using any object that you think would fit your art. So I used a cap to fit my art because in the past I've used a cap on some of my arts and I said to myself why not use the cap to fit the art with the things I love.

I made this art by using different images and symbols that meant something to me; stuff that has its own place in my mind or heart. I made it to show a piece of different things that I'm thinking about from my games to social and political matters in this country.

My work represents my favorite snacks, my hobby, my religion and social issues that are happening in the world in the present. I made it with images from the internet. I put it into a collage to represent it in an interesting way. The crescent and star represents the symbol of my religion Islam. With a picture of the holy quran on the right side corner. With a mosque which is the place Muslims do prayer. On the left side is a monitor on the table that has the word hobby on the screen. With a computer and a controller next to it. Below it has a Xbox console, which represents that im a gamer and gaming is my hobby. The all lives matter connects to a peace sign that has different colors which represents the different races. There should be peace between all the races. The piece in the middle is one of my old art pieces from this school which also represents taking the vaccine. The bottom left corner says hip hop and it is circled. That represents my favorite type of music genre. Lastly, I took one of my art works from a few weeks ago that says Palestine Lives Matter. Underneath it I found an image that people are holding a sign for Palestine lives matter. I believe it is important for this awareness because the sad truth is that our tax money that we pay is going towards harming people in Palestine.

Making my artwork started when I was walking around my house looking for things to include in my project. I wanted it to be
meaningful to me. So I got some seashells because I love the beach
and printed out lyrics to my favorite song and highlighted my favorite
lines and words in the song. I put a lot of other things meaningful to me on top of that.

I used leaves from my tree and I made it with some oil pastel colors, crayons, colored pencils, and makers. Behind the drawings in the paper it shows that I like to do a lot of things like play in the snow and how I admire both my mom and my dad. The words that are easy to read in the drawings are chill, admire, relaxed, and fun because I like to look at the stars at night and that’s what I call fun, chill, and relax. I share my ideas with viewers to come up with their own thoughts and feelings as well and they can show how they feel by drawing the project and drawing of what they like to do or what they do. I think my drawing expresses what I like to do and what I do and it would also give thoughts to the viewers and they as well can express themselves in a drawing.

I made a Basquiat-themed mixed-media collage using old newspapers, colored pencils, soda can tabs, a leaf, a photo of me, all on a sheet of card stock. This was outside my comfort zone because I usually make sketches not collages. I made this collage to express who I am through mixing drawings and items with volume together on a sheet of paper. I am satisfied with the result, even though the project was a challenge.

I made this art piece by gathering important things to me like quotes, photos, and things about who I am. I made this postcard project with the inspiration of Basquiat. I incorporated lists of important things to me, dates and numbers that have meaning in my life like the birthdates of my family and people I care about in these lists. Sometimes I crossed out what I found to be the most important date or number or word just like Basquiat did in many of his lists and pieces. I used symbols, numbers and words that I had once written in my sketchbook. I used materials that had meaning to me like a photograph of myself from my second birthday, an old homework assignment that I did about who I am and added things about myself into at the beginning of this year. I used a page from one of my favorite books called Wonder that had words that I found inspiring about how we see ourselves. I incorporated parts of my childhood and daily life and the string that I have pasted onto one of my postcards is not any string but a piece of the string that my dad and I used to fly our own handmade kites over the summer. I used meaning behind my postcards about how I had felt between day and night and expressing who I am in this project.

I added the animals and nature because I love to go out and catch bugs, reptiles, and frogs. My dad would help me with a lot of my crafts. In winter I would go outside every day and start to pile the snow in one area so I can then pat it down and dig out the inside to make an igloo. My favorite book series was “Creepers Diary” and “Percy Jackson.” I was interested in “Percy Jackson” because it was about Greek mythology which I was interested in. I am also interested in anatomy and from Brooklyn and I found it cool that Basquiat had that in common with me.

I drew myself using many colors because at this time of season I would wear many bright colored t-shirts. I added the words happy, music, smile, color, and blue to express myself as a really happy or cheerful person. I used small symbols because they all have a certain meaning. For example, the crown means to never give up and you will succeed, and usually queens have crowns, so I like to tell myself don’t give up if you want to become a queen. I have a very colorful border because I had a collection of strings and I would curl them every time I felt sad, and that would be a way to describe my feelings or emotions. The right side shows the emotion that someone can feel sometimes.
